The RadioShack HTX-10 (produced in 1999), also known as "that one RadioShack HF rig", is one of only two HF radios ever produced by RadioShack (both are 10m only). This radio is known for its low-cost but reliable qualities. This radio does 10 meter SSB/FM at 25W and AM at 7W. Note that this radio is only capable of analog voice modes. This radio has quite simplistic controls, featuring repeater offset and a few memory channels. This makes it ideal for a mobile rig. This radio is no longer produced, but it is still easy to find online and at hamfests for good prices. This is a good radio for mobile and portable setups, especially for activities like POTA.

I would recommend this radio for current US Technicians or Canadian Basic operators (or in another country, classes that only allow for very limited HF operations) to try out HF and see if they would want to make the jump to the US General class or Canadian Advanced (or Basic with Honours) qualifications (or in another country, a class allowing for HF operations). I would not recommend this radio for a permanent base station setup. I have heard rumors of a hardware modification allowing for CB-spectrum operation but I would not encourage doing this as it is not FCC-compliant and will require crystal switching to convert back to 10 meters. Also, the display will read the same numbers whether it is in 10 meters or 11 meters, so you'll have to do the 2 MHz or so subtraction yourself.
